Day Fail – 6 week PBE cycle

Morning weigh-in: 174.5 lbs  You can look back at the last couple posts or just reference the title of this post …. the 6 week cycle was a failure.  Time to get back on that horse and try again.  Getting back into my 80/20 paleo meal plan today and we’ll see how it goes.

Fitness:  The gymnastics strength training has been incredible.  Finding improved mobility and stability which should translate into better performance when I get back after the iron.  Did some pull-ups and shoulder press work over the weekend and felt great!  Opening up my hips with some stretching and foam rolling everything, it hurts but I love it.

Nutrition: Getting back on the 80/20 meal plan.

Day 23 – 6 week PBE cycle

Morning weigh-in: 175.5 lbs  And we are back at the starting point… 23 days in and I think we are seeing the general pattern here.  The largest factor in weight gain/loss is nutrition and my nutrition game has been rough!

Fitness:  Week 5 of GST, last week was a de-load with lower reps and holds and started back into the loading this week.  Finished up Week 5 / Day 1 GST with 3 sets of 40lbs dumbbell bench press.

Nutrition: Roughhhhh

Day 16 – 6 week PBE cycle

Morning weigh-in: 173 lbs  Alright, we are trending the wrong direction here, but it’s not my fault!  #In-N-Out #Burger

Fitness:  Started taking a class after work which is going to eat up a lot my time on Tuesday/Thursday nights.  Took a rest day yesterday but getting back after it with 4 days of GST plus strength movements, it’s going to be aggressive.

Nutrition: Based on the weight, you can tell this is not going well.  That said, I’m still tracking my food log this week so should be some interesting numbers at the end of this week.

Day 16 – 6 week PBE cycle

Morning weigh-in: 171.5 lbs  Past 5 days have not been friendly to the scale.  I was not very good on my meal plan and did not stay on track over the weekend.  This is main struggle for me; balancing routine and restraint in an city that promotes day drinking and exploring.

Fitness:  Still on track with the GST, entering week 3.  Final week of additional loading before a de-load week 4 and I’ve added a strength move to the each day this week (bench press, squat, shoulder press, deadlift).  Wish me luck.

Day 10 – 6 week PBE cycle

Morning weigh-in: 169.5 lbs  Pounds keep dropping!  All I have done is cut down on the carb intake.  Trying to avoid wheat, and limiting carbs to veggies and fruit.  I haven’t been super strict about it, had drinks a few nights and on Sunday I had a cheeseburger and fries.

Fitness:  Did Day 4 of the GST draining on Friday (Day 5), nothing on Day 6.  Day 7 I ran a couple miles outside and finished with wind sprints.  Did not want to run but really enjoyed being outside, it was a nice day in the city.  Even motivated me to do a short interval bodyweight lifting session at night.

Nutrition: This is my first time sub-170 lbs since my Cabo diet (June 1st), so my guess is the extra weight I was carrying around was due to the wheat/carbs I ate in Cabo and after Cabo.  I’m certainly no scientist, but I’ve been reading the book Wheat Belly by Dr. William Davis and thaaatttt prettttyyyy much makes me an expert on the topic.  The weight I’m losing is “visceral fat” which is abdominal fat built up around the organs which causes a fat belly.  Cutting out the wheat/carbs, my body is not receiving signals to store fat, so it is using the fat reserves that are already built up.

Day 9 – 6 week PBE cycle

Morning weigh-in: 171 lbs  The floor is falling out from under this place!  2 pounds in one day seems like a fluke.  Expect a flat or higher number tomorrow.

Fitness:  Jumped into  week 2 of the GST training yesterday and followed it up with some jump rope and 20 minutes on the bike.

Nutrition: Eggs with onion, spinach and bacon in the morning.  Chicken with vegetables for lunch.  Ground beef with vegetables for dinner.  A couple of beers and some snack bar food to close out the evening.

Day 8 – 6 week PBE cycle

Morning weigh-in: 173 lbs  Somehow I dropped a pound after a really really really rough Day 5 and the weekend.

Nutrition: Working on putting together a food journal with nutrition facts to track my macro split and calories, hopefully will have that to share for next week.

Day 4 – 6 week PBE cycle

Morning weigh-in: 174.5 lbs  Stayed flat again.  Went Rogue yesterday and took my rest day at some watering holes in the Dog Patch.  Expected a weight gain so I’m not too upset about staying flat.

Fitness:  Did some walking around my area, but no workout on Wednesday.

Nutrition: Beer and a shot, plus a couple more beers and some BBQ.  Feeling a little sluggish this morning but gotta get back on that grind!

Day 3 – 6 week PBE cycle

Morning weigh-in: 174.5 lbs  No change from yesterday.  Ate clean on Tuesday, had one beer Tuesday night while listening to the Jay-Z & Beyonce concert at the roof-top patio.

Fitness:  Hit the Tuesday workout for Foundation One routine through Gymnastic Bodies and then one cycle of Tabata.

Nutrition:  Having roommates to cook meals with makes healthy nutrition infinitely easier.  The roomies made some chicken burgers & brussel sprouts last night, plus some leftover steak and a protein shake post workout.  Getting solid calories intake.

Day 2 – 6 week PBE cycle

Morning weigh-in: 174.5 lbs  Dropped some of the excess weekend binge weight.  Ate very clean on Monday so the scale is looking more respectable this morning.

Fitness:  Hit the Monday workout for Foundation One routine through Gymnastic Bodies and then through in one cycle of Tabata.  Listened to Hip Hop Tabata from TabataSongs, great way to track the time without using a watch.  Allowed me to focus on my exercises and stay in a rhythm.  Check out this youtube video of Andrea Ager doing a Tabata routine.  Ager Bomb is killing it!!!

Nutrition: This morning I made my Bulletproof Coffee, or in honor of this site maybe I should call it the Coffee Burger.  That was the full breakfast (besides glasses of water) that I had until lunch at 12pm.  For one, the coffee gives plenty of energy for the morning and the fat/protein keeps me full.  Second, I just put my body through approximately 14 hour carbohydrate fast.  This is a form of intermittent fasting.

Coffee Burger Recipe – Blend the following items

  • 2 cups drip coffee (brewed)
  • 1 tablespoon Coconut Oil
  • 1 tablespoon Kerry’s Gold Grass Fed Butter
  • 1 scoop whey protein powder
  • Cinnamon
